ARTIST BIO

Allan Hayton (Athabascan) grew up in Arctic Village, Alaska, on the Venetie Indian Reservation. It was a wonderful place to be a child, a community rich in culture, language and history. Allan's study in theatre began at Haskell Indian Nations University with the Thunderbird Theatre under the direction of Pat Melody. Allan has worked with companies such as Creede Repertory Theatre, Perseverance Theatre, Naa Kahidi Theatre, and the Alaska Theatre of Youth.

I believe that the theatre is a perfect artistic medium for revitalizing Native American cultures and languages. It is wonderful to see our people come to life on stage, and that so much of the loss we all share can be healed. We can tell all parts of our stories, the good and the bad, and also help others to understand our Native experience.
